Hardeep Singh Nijjar Is Assassinated
Nijjar is shot and killed in the parking lot of Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey, B.C., as he attempts to drive away. He was the gurdwara’s president and a prominent leader in the Khalistan movement. He was a Canadian citizen.

Trudeau Accuses India in Parliament
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau publicly tells Parliament that Canadian intelligence agencies are pursuing “credible allegations of a potential link” between agents of the Government of India and Nijjar’s killing. India denies all involvement and expels a Canadian diplomat. Canada also expels a senior Indian intelligence official.

Canada Expels Six Indian Diplomats
After presenting what Ottawa describes as “irrefutable evidence” of links between Indian government agents and the killings of both Nijjar and Sukhdool Singh, Canada expels six Indian diplomats — including High Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Verma. India retaliates by expelling six Canadian diplomats.

CSIS confirms its assessment of Indian government involvement has not changed.
